We show that for every $n$ unit vectors $v_{1}, \dots, v_{n}$ in the $d$ -dimensional Euclidean space, there exist signs $ε_{1}, \dots, ε_{n} \in {\pm 1}$ such that $∥ ε_{1} v_{1} + \dots + ε_{n} v_{n} ∥ \geq 2 n - d$ , and we characterize the equality cases.

A non-lattice periodic point set beating the optimal lattice packing-covering constant in dimension five
We exhibit a $2$ -periodic non-lattice point set of $R^{5}$ with $γ = 9/ 40 = 1.423024 \dots < γ_{5} = 3/2 + 13 /6 = 1.4494568 \dots$ , so that in dimension five the packing-covering problem is not solved by lattices.

Horizon saddle connections and Veech groups of infinite-type dilation surfaces
We prove that if $S$ is a surface with self-similar end space and every end is accumulated by genus, then every countable subgroup of $S L (2, R)$ can be realized as the Veech group of a dilation surface homeomorphic to $S$ .
